While falling back from the days when USA Today proclaimed Long Beach to be the most diverse city in the nation, a new list ranking the diversity of cities across the U.S. has ranked it No. 10.
Long Beach lives in the shadow of Los Angeles, literally and physically. The southernmost part of the metro L.A. area, Long Beach shares a border with California’s biggest city—but with Hollywood to the north and Disneyland to the east, it’s often overlooked in favor of more star-filled destinations.
Although popular coastal neighborhoods such as Belmont Shore and Alamitos Beach are probably Long Beach’s best-known residential districts, the north end of town has its own hidden gem: Bixby Knolls.
Like much of Southern California, the land that became Bixby Knolls was once part of a Spanish land grant.
